Reconnecting with Your Creative Spark
Jun 11, 2024
Creativity is a marvellous, elusive beast, isn’t it? One moment, you’re brimming with ideas, the next, you're staring at a blank page, wondering where all the inspiration went. And sometimes, even when life feels full and busy, we can still feel a quiet boredom creeping in, a sense that something’s missing.
Often, that “something” is our connection to our own creativity.
Because when we’re operating on autopilot, it’s easy to lose touch with what makes us feel truly alive. Yet, discovering your own personal creative process can transform that sense of stuckness into a more joyful, fulfilling journey - one that brings greater focus, motivation and purpose.
And for those who feel reluctant to ‘be creative’ or don’t see themselves as creative, take a look at a previous blog of mine: Did you know, we are all creative?
Discovering your own personal creative process is a deeply rewarding journey. It’s about finding what works best for you, embracing your unique quirks, and giving yourself the freedom to explore and experiment. By creating a dedicated space, setting aside time, and seeking inspiration everywhere, you can nurture your creativity and make it an integral part of your life. Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to be creative. It’s all about finding joy in the process and trusting that each step brings you closer to your creative potential.
So, if you've been feeling a little bored lately- even while being busy - this might just be your invitation to dive back in, experiment, and rediscover the magic of your own creative spark.
Here are 10 tips to help you unearth and embrace your unique creative process, making creativity an integral (and energising) part of your daily life.
1. Embrace Your Uniqueness
Forget the rules. Your creativity doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Do you get your best ideas while walking? Need background noise? Total silence? Start noticing the moments you feel most you - and follow that.
2. Create Space (Physically & Mentally)
Sometimes our creativity doesn’t need coaxing, it just needs room to breathe. Find a corner of your day, a spot in your home, or even a mental pause that belongs just to you. Space is where inspiration hides.
3. Prioritise Time for Creativity
Not when everything else is done. Not as a reward. Creativity is the lifeblood of your energy, insight and wellbeing. Start small - 15 minutes a week can be enough to reconnect with that sense of flow.
4. Try New Mediums, Play with Possibility
Your creative process might not live where you expect it to. Step outside your usual habits, doodle, cook, dance, rearrange furniture, tell a story to your dog. Play is powerful.
5. Seek Inspiration in the Everyday
Creativity doesn’t live just in ideas, it lives in noticing. On your commute. In a quote. In nature. In a conversation. Stay curious and open. Inspiration often whispers.
6. Redefine Failure
Creative boredom often hides under the fear of doing it wrong. Let go of perfection. Nothing kills creativity faster than trying to "get it right". Try badly. Playfully. Clumsily. And then try again.
7. Slow Down with Mindfulness
Sometimes the most creative act is slowing down enough to feel what you feel. Mindfulness doesn’t just reduce stress, it opens you up to new ways of thinking and being.
8. Connect with Other Curious Humans
Creativity thrives in community. Find your people, the ones who encourage exploration over perfection, ideas over outcomes. Let their courage rub off on you.
9. Keep a Creative Journal
Not for perfection. Not for Instagram. Just for you. Capture moments, musings, frustrations, ideas. You’ll be surprised what patterns emerge and how much wisdom you already have.
10. Trust the Process
Creativity isn’t a straight line. It’s a spiral, a tide, a dance. It doesn’t always make sense in the moment. But trust that if you keep turning towards it, your spark will return.
Creativity is not the cherry on top—it’s the soul of meaningful, energised work.
So if you’re bored, what if you didn’t try harder, but tried differently?
Ask yourself:
- What did I love before I got so busy?
- Where do I feel most alive now?
- What might be possible if I gave myself permission to play again?
Let your answers guide you back to yourself.
And if you’re ready to go deeper, my work is all about this, rediscovering your energy, creativity and purpose in a way that’s deeply human and sustainable.
